Welcome to the Department of Informatics at the University of Fribourg! We are the only Swiss university department offering degrees in both Computer Science and Business Informatics. Being an interfaculty department affiliated with the Faculties of Science and of Economics, we have a very diverse and inspiring research culture.

Being tri-lingual is another specificity of our department. We use English, French, and German in our teaching as well as daily communication. This linguistic and cultural diversity leads to an enriching working atmosphere that we are particularly proud of and that benefits research interaction between collaborators and students alike.

Bachelor

A Bachelor degree in Computer science will prepare you for a broad range of careers, for instance in banking, finance, management and major software houses.

With a Master’s degree you can enter our PhD program, which is strongly integrated with our research activities. The Department of Computer Science is research-oriented with a number of research projects in a wide range of areas covering both the foundations of informatics and its practical applications. The duration for a doctoral program is three to five years on average.
