How to install a printer on Windows XP?

First method:

to take advantage of the automatic authentication : you *must* login into Windows with your UNIFR login !

1. Open menu Start --> Control Panel (or Settings on old menu themes)
2. Choose Printer and Faxes
3. Choose Add a Printer (menu left/top)
4. Choose Network Printer --> Next -->
5. Choose Connect to this Printer
6. Name: Enter "\\print\\printer_name" (for example: " \\print\diufpr07 ")
7. Choose if you want it as your default printer, then click on "Finish". 

Second Method (This is the preferred method):

If you encounter problems using printer via \\print try the following method:

1. Download the appropriate printer driver on: \\diuf-file\software\windows\DiUF Printers\
2. Copy the directory with the name of the printer on your desktop
3. Open menu Start --> Control Panel (or Settings on old menu themes)
4. Choose Printer and Faxes
5. Choose Add a Printer (menu left/top)
6. Choose "Local printer attached to this computer", but uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer"
7. Click next
8. Select "Add a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port"
9. Click next
10. Click next on the new window.
11. Enter the printer name (ex. diufpr07) in "Printer Name or IP Address"
12. Click next, next, finish
13. Click on "Have Disk"
14. Click on "Browse"
15. Navigate to the .inf file saved in the driver directory from step 2.
16. Select and let install these driver.
17. Finish the wizard with the default options.
18. Print a test page to verify the new installed printer

How to install a multi function printer on Windows?

1. First method (prefered): open a folder and go to the printer by typing "\\ccpr18", then make a right click on PCL6 and choose "connect" from popup menu.
2. Second method : Follow the instructions given in the site

How to install a multi function printer on Mac OS X? 

Install a Toshiba Printer on Mac OS X

1. Download and install the dmg from: smb://diuf-file/software/macintosh/Toshiba Printer Driver/TOSHIBA_eS6530CSeries.dmg
2. Open System Preferences -> Printer and Fax (or Print & Scan)
3. Add a new printer
4. Choose IP -> Protocol: LPD and set the name/address of the printer (ex: ccpr18)
5. Mac will find the appropriate driver (TOSHIBA eS6530CSeries) 
6. Click on add
7. Set the appropriate options and click on continue

IMPORTANT!!!

Please configure your machine to print in black and white by following the pdf
For the new Mac OS Lion (10.7.2) do this:

• type in a browser the following URL: http://localhost:631/printers/
• select your printer (i.ex. ccpr07)
• select "Set Default Options" in the second drop-down
• select colour "settings 1" and then mono
   
• 

When printing on a multi function printer go to option print modus and set to private mode!

IMPORTANT!!!

To print on ccpr07 you must have a department code!

Install a HP DiUF printer on Mac OS X

1. Open "system preferences"
2. Click on print & fax
3. Click on the + on the lower left corner of the printer list
4. Choose IP printer
5. Choose the protocol: HP Jet Direct - Socket
6. Type the address of the printer 
7. Mac finds the appropriate driver
8. Click add to finish the installation

Install a Toshiba Multi Function Printer on Ubuntu Linux 

• For TOSHIBA e-STUDIO5520C Download this .ppd file here
• Go to System - Administration - Printing

1. Create New Printer
2. Select AppSocket/HP JetDirect
3. Enter IP address of the printer
4. Select "Provide PPD file" then click on the selection bar where is written (None)
   open location where you downloaded the .ppd file, then select "Use the new PPD"
5. enter Printer Name
6. enter Description
7. enter Location and [Apply]
8. In Printer Options, select
   Media Size=A4, Media Source=Auto, Duplex=2-Sided, No Tumble(Long-Edge...)
   Collate, Department Code, Do not Print Blank Pages, Printing Modes DC (your department Code)
   Color Settings 1: Color Type=Mono, 600dpi and Color Settings 2=General *)
   Then [Apply]
9. open /etc/cups/ppd/PRINTERNAME.ppd with an editor
10. find all "CUPS User" and replace this string with your USERNAME
11. When you print now, the document is printing directly, without any user interaction
    on the printer's display
12. Download pdf file with additionnal print-screens here.

*)   Please print mono (black-white) per default and only when you really
            need change to color.
            This is safing money and "Green IT".
            Same with double-sided printing.

How can I check a printer status ?

1. Go  here
2. If asked: enter with your UNIFR login "UNIFR\your_login"
3. Choose the printer you want
