Research Interests

I'm an HCI design researcher, computer scientist, and sociologist by practice. I am interested in the interaction of technology and people, and the role of technology in community development.

I come from Syria, and currently I am doing research on how local voluntary communities there use ICT to communicate and collaborate, and on how we can design ICTs to serve community needs, support community-building and sel-organization. In this project, we are focusing on how the current design of the Internet and platforms operating on it (e.g. social media & web-hosting) relates to conflict in voluntary communities. This is to inform the design of future collaborative platforms that account for conflict, ownership and issues of power.
